The Midtown Scholar Bookstore is pleased to welcome author Jessamine Chan for an in-person event on her acclaimed debut novel, The School for Good Mothers. Chan will be in conversation with #1 New York Times bestselling author Kate Baer.

This is an in-person event with a live-stream option via Zoom. Registration is required. Limited seating and tickets available. Bookstore will close to the public at 6pm, doors will open at 6:30pm, and the event will begin at 7:00pm. Virtual attendees will receive the event access link 24 hours and 1 hour before the event begins.

Vaccination Requirements:

You must show proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 for entrance to this event. We will accept either a physical vaccination card, digital proof, or a photo of the card on your phone. Per the CDC, people are considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, or 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine.

Event Policies:

  • Seating is general admission; first come, first served

  • Masks are required

  • Cafe beverages + food will not be available during the event

  • Book browsing will not be permitted after 8pm

About the Speakers:

Jessamine Chan’s short stories have appeared in Tin House and Epoch. A former reviews editor at Publishers Weekly, she holds an MFA from Columbia University’s School of the Arts and a BA from Brown University. Her work has received support from the Elizabeth George Foundation, the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, the Wurlitzer Foundation, the Jentel Foundation, the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center, the Anderson Center, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the Ragdale Foundation. She lives in Philadelphia with her husband and daughter.

Kate Baer is an author and poet based on the East Coast. Her first book, What Kind Of Woman, was a #1 New York Times Instant Bestseller and featured in publications such as Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue.com & The Chicago Review. Her work has also been published in The New Yorker, Literary Hub and The New York Times.
