Bookstore Cafe: Full-TIME Or Part-Time

Full-Time or Part-Time Position: 25-40 hours/week

Schedule: 4-5 days/week, including 1-2 evenings/week and at least one weekend day

The Midtown Scholar Bookstore-Cafe seeks a hard-working, dependable self-starter who is focused on customers’ needs and enjoys a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment to join our retail bookstore, café, and events team. This is an entry-level, hourly-wage position.

Location: Midtown Harrisburg

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Tasks include greeting and assisting customers; addressing customer inquiries; book stocking, sorting, and shelving; store merchandising; light maintenance and cleaning; point-of-sale cashier; café beverages and food service; moving book carts; box moving; set-up and tear-down for public events; author hospitality; and helping with public programs.

Additional duties may include inventory receiving, used book pricing and listing, hand-selling, and general bookstore operations. Opportunities for advancement based on interest and skills.

QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

●     Ages 16 or older with a valid work permit.

●     Ability to climb, bend, crouch, stoop, and lift boxes up to 40 lbs.; ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time; ability to use hands and arms to operate a keyboard and telephone, manipulate small, large, and heavy objects, and engage in repetitive motion activities. Daily tasks include climbing stairs, pushing book carts, and carrying boxes.

●     The workplace requires going up and down stairs and maneuvering narrow aisles and hallways, with the diverse sounds, smells, and distractions of a public gathering place.
